The Tiger I was a German heavy tank used by the Wehrmacht during WWII. The Tiger was built from 1942 to 1944 and was the first tank to mount the 8.8 cm KwK 36 gun, but despite its outstanding design it was a good example of German over-engineering and this high maintenance tank would be haunted by various failures and vulnerabilities throughout the war. The Tiger I would see a few small upgrades throughout the war but there was no significant change between the H and E variants. The Tiger I E had the cupola replaced with a lower profile design and an extra 100 mm armor was added in front of the gunner. The tank had a crew of 5 ((commander, gunner, loader, driver, assistant driver) and a secondary armament of 2 x 2× 7.92 mm MG 34 machine guns. A total of 1,347 Tiger I tanks were produced, but only seven survive today.
