The 8th Infantry Regiment Osaka was part of the 4th Infantry Division of the Imperial Japanese Army. Prior to WWII the regiment and its division had participated in several engagements in the Second Sino-Japanese War. In 1941 the division participated in Battle of Changsha, but shortly after it was sent back to Japan to act as a reserve force. At the start of the Pacific War the division was assigned to the 14th Army and sent to the Philippines where it saw combat in the Battle of Bataan and later in the Battle of Corregidor. After the Phillipine Campaign the division performed security and garrison duties in the Japanese home islands and Sumatra, but was lastly transferred to Thailand where it was disbanded in 1946.
