The Fairey Albacore was a British made carrier-borne biplane, designed and built for the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm and used during WWII. The Albacore had a three-man crew and was used for spotting and reconnaissance as well as level bombing, dive bombing and torpedo bombing. It was designed and built to replace the Fairey Swordfish, but it proved less popular than its predecessor as the pilots considered it less maneuverable and it suffered from reliability problems when it was first introduced. The aircraft was used in a combat role from 1940 to 1944, but from 1943 the Fleet Air Arm service started replacing it with the Barracuda.
